The Concord Karate Studio team ensures students receive everything they need to succeed in their goals and training program. Our state-of-the-art facility provides students with a safe, clean space to learn American Kenpo Karate. Whether you want to learn self-defense, make friends, or get off the couch to exercise, our instructors are here to help you reach your goals. Concord Karate Studio was opened by Sia Cote, and her husband Jason, in April of 2024, with the goal of helping students become the best version of themselves, by teaching Progressive Kenpo System karate (PKS). PKS follows the teachings of Mr. Ed Parker, Sr, who is known as the father of American Kenpo Karate. Mr. Parker developed a system that is based on the principles of situational awareness, stability, balance, coordination, power, flow, and timing. Following the natural geometry of the Universal Pattern and mathematics, Mr. Parker’s system teaches us the maximum application of our motion. These concepts and principles can be adapted for students to use based on their current situation. Principles are paramount over sequence. Mr. Parker’s dream was for a worldwide Kenpo Community that looks out for each other. Practitioners stay “one step ahead in the game” and focus on the principles of black belt: modesty, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Our programming includes: Little Ninjas - A play-based approach to martial arts skills designed for preschool students ages 3+. This class is designed to teach key skills such as listening, focus, patience, and perseverance all while having fun. Little Dragons - A fun introduction to martial arts designed for Kindergarten students. In this class, we build on the skills from the Little Ninja class and add in basic martial arts techniques and forms. Family Classes - These classes are designed for students in grades 1-8. This is the full program during which students will learn specific self-defense techniques and forms, and higher ranks will also gain experience with freestyle drills, Gracie jiujitsu basics, and some weapons drills. Adult classes - These classes are designed for teens in grades 9+ and adults of all ages and abilities. The curriculum is the same offering as we have for the "family" class, but there is more detail given and the pace is more appropriate for our teen and adult audience. Women's Self-Defense Course - We offer a 16-week course designed by women and taught by women to meet the special self-defense needs of our female population. This is a relaxed and fun environment to learn and discuss more sensitive scenarios. This course is designed for teens in grades 9+ and adults. After-School Program - Our unique after school program offers a fully-integrated karate class as well as: life skills training (tying knots, folding laundry, internet safety, etc), world language basics (French and Spanish), academic support for struggling learners, and homework help. Transportation is available upon request. Summer Camp Weeks - We are currently offering three weeks of summer camp. Our program includes much more than kicks and punches. Aside from the martial arts skills campers will gain, the week is filled with karate games, summer learning loss prevention activities, life skills activities, a community service project, and a daily field trip (transportation included). Campers will also have an ice cream social on Wednesday and a pizza party on Friday!
